Maybe the biggest hit in music history soon?
25 years ago: Mariah Carey was at the peak of her career, the album 'Music Box' and the hit-singles 'Dreamlover', 'Hero' and especially 'Without You' were huge successes.
Her record-company Columbia wanted to use the favor of the hour and were planning a Christmas album. In summer 1994 the recordings began, including the song 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', written and produced by Mariah Carey itself and the legendary, Russian-born composer Walter Afanasieff.
Over the years the song has become a classic and with each holiday-season its popularity continues to grow. A fantastic, energetic, sweeping tune, written for the eternity.
On December 25, 2018 the song set the single-day record for most Spotify streams, with 10,82 million plays and have earned $60 million in royalities that year alone.
Due the huge sales and streaming data the song generates every year in November and December,
it's quite possible that in about eight to ten years, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' could replace Elton John's 'Candle In The Wind' as the biggest hit in music history.
