Today is Mercury's Last Day. With the assistance of some pain meds, it will also be a Good Day. His best day in months.
On a cold afternoon on March 20th, 2003, I held him shortly after he was born, pulling him out of a pet carrier after his mother gave birth in there. He was the only survivor and he was oh so cold. I held him & his sac under warm water to slowly raise his body temp and then cut his cord.
Tomorrow morning, February 3rd at around 9:30 am, I'll hold him as I help him over the Bridge to his next adventure. My face was the first face he saw when his eyes opened and my face will be one of the last one he sees when he closes them.
Named after the Roman god, aptly named because he was the fastest cat around. He loved to to cuddle next to me on the couch, running the entire length of his body along my thigh, perfectly positioned so that his Elevator Butt with a hair trigger was ready to foil many a game by knocking my arm up if it so much as touched a single hair on his back. But a good butt scritch wasn't his favorite thing, nope, not at all. A cheek rub with an ear scritch? He couldn't get enough of that! Pressing his head into my hand, forcing both to the ground, you couldn't pet him like that enough. He's getting a lot of those cheek & ear rubs today.
I'm gonna miss the hell out of you little buddy. He'll be joining his old buds Kougra, Tabby, Sheba, Sabby, Kearia, and that cranky lady Myia.
